FAQ's

Please find the answers to some of the common questions we get about BOCC Upward.  This list may grow as the season goes one.

Do they practice once or twice a week?
Practice is once a week
This is a example from last year, grade levels could change depending on registration-
Practice will be determined after teams are complete

For how long?

one hour practice, games are two 18 min halves

Do you know what days and times his/her age group will practice and play games?
Practice see above, games start with K-1 at 9:00am, on Saturdays

Do they play games on Saturdays only or on other days as well?  When does their season end?
It is a Saturday only unless weather causes us to miss weekend games, then we have makeup games during the week.

In regards to your request for a referee coordinator:  Do you have a list of referees for the teams?
Referees usually ref more than one game per Saturday, usually 2 hour blocks.  We hope to have a list after the volunteer meeting.  We do have rule books, whistle and shirts to provide those that are interested

If so, does that mean that the referee coordinator has to call different people from the list of refs each week to be sure that someone is scheduled to come ref for the day/games for the different groups?
Yes the referee coordinators jobs is to make sure there are two refs for every game and they are prepared with shirt and whistle.  The Coordinator also needs to know the rules and attend most of the games to review refs and give help where needed.  They will report directly to me.

In regards to your request for a devotion coordinator:  What do they do?

During halftime of each game there is a 5 min slot for ministry.  Usually we teach the devotion lesson that was taught during practice that week so the parents and audience get a chance to see what the children are learning besides basketball which is Christian values.  The devotion coordinator will work closely with the cheerleading coaches to make sure the time is designated correctly during halftime, they will make sure there is someone to teach the lesson, and offer suggestion for ministry options (song, dance, etc).  They will report to me

Do we take pictures?

There will be a picture day either on the 2nd or 3rd game day (TBD), prices (TBD)

Will there be concessions?

Last year we did provide food for sell on some game days, hopefully we will be able to do that more this year

Does my child need to be fitted, I know their size?

Yes, uniforms tend to run small sometimes.  We have test jerseys and shorts they can try on at evaluations

Are snacks provided for the children on game day?

The parents take turn bringing a snack for the game, very simple snack.  This will be coordinated by a team mom.

I want to help at basketball practice but I can't make it to all of them?
You can be a assistant coach or team dad and help during practice.  The difference is only the coach and assistant coach are allowed on the sidelines during games
